What sport do you do?
Running and Duathlon (run/bike/run) over middle and long distance. I’m in Team GB for Duathlon.
How did you get into it?
I started running aged 35 at Lancaster & Morecambe Athletics club as a way to stay fit and meet other people. I got into biking when I was injured as a runner and cycling was a way of staying fit without impact.
Describe your typical training regime:
I typically do 15 hours a week training, I also coach running so can incorporate some of my own sessions with those of others. I would cycle 3 times a week – from 2 – 4 hours each time and one speed session, normally a 10 mile Time Trial which I aim to improve upon each week.
I also do 3 or 4 running speed sessions with potentially a race at the weekend during summer.
I also work on strength and conditioning for one hour a week at Train Together, I would like to do more of this but have time constraints. I have also started to do weights on Wednesdays to help strength and core.
How long have you been a member at Train Together?
Just since early 2015.
How has Train Together helped you?
Train Together has helped by my having a regular time in my diary to work on my core. Specific exercises have been put together for me to help me personally. Neil is always available to help with any specific training.
What do you like about Train Together?
I like that the classes are small, the trainers are knowledgeable and approachable and the other gym members are friendly and supportive. The classes are at a time and location that’s really helpful to me and come winter I shall be in using the treadmill!
What events have you got coming up?
I have 2015 Zofingen ITU Long Distance World Duathlon Championships in Switzerland and the 2016 Standard Distance European Duathlon Championships in Germany. I also have the National UK Championship Duathlon in Outlon Park in October and Snowdonia Marathon at the end of October.
Why do you prefer Train Together to other gyms in town?
I’ve never even considered the other gyms to be honest, I like the smallness, the friendliness, the support, and the community/family feel at Train Together.
I have recommended other people, who are non-sporty to Train Together as I think they nurture and encourage new people and help them to grow.
