Starting university is exciting. Freshers, parties, new people and finally some peace away from your mum’s nagging. It can also be a bit scary. It’s now your responsibility to do the washing, to get a hot meal on your table and keep your room clean – ish. Somehow being at home again doesn’t sound so bad.
To ensure you get the best from your time at Lancaster, we thought we’d share three pearls of wisdom with you:
#1 Budget your pennies. You’ve no doubt heard this one before. But don’t fall into the trap of getting your first loan and feeling like the richest student in Lancaster. It might be the most money you’ve ever had in your account, but it’s got to last you until the next Student Loan payday (and, believe me, that can feel like worlds away when you’re living off Tesco’s baked beans).
#2 Keep fit. Youth is still on your side, but all of those pasties from Greggs have to go somewhere. Getting your backside into shape can do wonders for your health – counteracting Jaeger bombs and boosting productivity to get you through your studies (because it’s not all parties – we’re sorry about that).
#3 Join a gym that accommodates your budget. Train Together is based in the centre of Lancaster, opposite the hospital bus stop (if you’re new to the city check out where we are, here). Alongside our standard month-by-month, no sign up fee, gym memberships and generous student discounts (nab the best deal with a Lancaster University purple card), we have a Student Gym Membership. One that is completely yours and designed around you. We understand that you don’t want to be paying a monthly fortune for the gym when you’re off home and not using it. For a one-off payment of £120 you get off-peak gym use between 7:00 – 12:00 and 15:15 – 17:00, Monday to Friday, and 10:00 – 11:30 and 13:00 – 15:00 Saturday for the whole year. We’re even giving you a minimum of 20 classes per month – our daily 40 minute Blast Class with your own experienced Personal Trainer.
